Religious Education Program

Contact Karie Ferrell, Director of Religious Education

Our Religious Education Program is a family-centered program offering two options to meet the needs of your family. We use the Finding God textbook series from Loyola Press to help families integrate the rites and traditions of the Catholic Faith into their daily lives and raise awareness that the life of the Church is in our homes, our workplaces, in the life of our communities, in the world.

Directed Home-Study Option: For families whose situations make participation in our Sunday morning classes difficult or impossible. We offer this option under the direction of the Director of Religious Education and with permission of the Pastor.

Sacramental Preparation: All the children of our parish, whether they participate in our religious education program or attend our parish school, Pope John XXIII, come together with their families to prepare to celebrate the sacraments. 2nd Grade is the usual age to prepare to celebrate First Reconciliation and First Communion; 8th Grade is the usual age to prepare for Confirmation. Older children and teens are integrated into both of these programs.

Totus Tuus is an Archdiocesan summer program led by a young adult team of seminarians and college students who teach the Gospel through Catechetical instruction, games, music, and the Mass and Sacraments. Their mission is to go out to the parishes and conduct week-long missions for children and teens entering Grades 1-12, inspiring them to a deeper, ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ. Saint Athanasius & Saint Mary team up to bring this program to Evanston this summer: July 23-28, 2017.

Saint Athanasius will host the Day Program for children entering grades 1-6
Saint Mary will host the Evening Program for Jr and Sr High School students
