SUMMER CAMP ˆ Back to Top

PJ23 Teacher Named Golden Apple Finalist ˆ Back to Top

The Golden Apple Foundation has named Pope John XXIII School kindergarten teacher Ms. Christina Lampa a finalist for its prestigious Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Ms. Lampa, in her sixth year of teaching at Pope John XXIII School, is one of 32 finalists chosen from a pool of 265 applicants representing kindergarten through 3rd grade teachers from the Chicago metropolitan area.

Ms. Lampa is the only finalist this year from a suburban religious school and this year’s only finalist from an Evanston school.

The 32 finalists will participate in a final round of review and observations prior to the announcement of the ten recipients in May. This rigorous process includes interviews with students, teachers, administrators and parents; classroom observation and videotaping of three lessons. All finalists will be honored at a special award banquet on Saturday, April 21 at the Hyatt McCormick Place.

During her tenure at Pope John XXIII School, Ms. Lampa has taught preschool, first grade and kindergarten. She also helps prepare older students for the state spelling bee, assists with after-school care, founded the Yearbook Club, co-founded the Girls on the Run club and is starting a summer camp.

Ms. Lampa says that her passion and love of teaching stems from the inspiration she gets from her kindergarteners. “The twinkle in their eyes when something clicks, that aha moment, is what keeps me going,” she said. Using positive reinforcement and words of encouragement, Ms. Lampa keeps the learning environment comfortable and nurturing. She holds high expectations for her students and says they always meet and often exceed them.

A native of Missouri, Ms. Lampa earned a bachelor degree in elementary education and English from Loyola University Chicago. She lives in Chicago.

Please join the entire Pope John XXIII community and the communities of Saint Nicholas Parish and Saint Mary Parish in congratulating Ms. Lampa on this extraordinary achievement!
